NEW PASTOR, NEW CHAPTER IN 140+ YEAR HISTORY FOR LOMBARD’S TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH
Trinity Lutheran Church of Lombard begins a new chapter in the congregation’s history with the installation of a new pastor on Sunday, March 9, 2008. Rev. Patrick J. Boomhower of Lombard will assume duties as head shepherd at the 140 year old church with the March 9 installation service at 3:30 p.m. Boomhower becomes the twelfth pastor of the church that was first established in 1860 at the corner of Roosevelt and Meyers Roads as Trinity Lutheran School. In 1868, Trinity Lutheran Church was founded on the same site by the families of the school, who until that date had traveled 10 miles by horse and wagon each Sunday to worship at Zion Lutheran Church in Bensenville.
Trinity Lutheran Church has been a longtime feature of the recently incorporated Lombard neighborhood, previously known as York Center. The church’s new pastor is also no stranger to the area. Boomhower comes to Trinity from his most recent posting at the young Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn. Prior to that, he served as the Senior Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Lombard. He came to the Chicago area after serving Lutheran congregations in San Antonio, Texas and Houghton, Michigan, where he also was the Campus Chaplain at Michigan Technological University. His seminary education was completed in 1993 at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana and his undergraduate degree is from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He served as a judicial clerk before pursuing a vocation in the ministry.
Trinity Lutheran Church of Lombard offers three traditional weekend worship services: Sunday mornings at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. During the Lenten (pre-Easter) and Advent (pre-Christmas) seasons, Wednesday evening services are at 7 p.m. This year’s Lenten worship is also offered at 2 p.m. Sunday school, Bible classes for youth and adults, as well as a supervised nursery, are available Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. The church features an array of ministry, support, and recreation groups and continues to operate Trinity Lutheran School, which provides all day preschool, extended care for preschool and kindergarten, and a quality Christian education for students from age 3 through 8th grade. After school care and summer camp programs are also available.
